Gusty Winds In San Diego County Mountains, Valleys To Ease Up In Afternoon

The gusty winds that have been whipping through San Diego County's mountains and valleys overnight are expected to ease up Thursday afternoon, but another bout of strong winds is forecast for this weekend.

A National Weather Service wind advisory for the mountains and valleys is set to remain in effect until 2 p.m. East winds with sustained speeds of 15 to 30 miles per hour are forecast for the advisory period along with gusts of around 50 mph.

Affected areas include those along and just west of mountain crests, through some canyons. Forecasters said the strongest winds would likely be around the mountains and foothills.

The weather service warned that strong winds may down tree branches and blow around loose items. It could also lead to difficult driving conditions, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles. Drivers were urged to use extra caution.

The winds are expected to weaken early Thursday afternoon, but the weather service said another period of strong winds would begin on Saturday.
