Does San Diego County Owe You Money?

San Diegans Leave Over $400k in Unclaimed Revenue

GUEST:

Dan McAllister, treasurer-tax collector, San Diego County

More than $400,000 in property tax refunds and other monies are unclaimed in San Diego County, and Treasurer-Tax Collector Dan McAllister is looking to return it.

McAllister is urging property owners and anyone who has done business with the county to check the Notice of Unclaimed Monies list on the county website. There are 4,179 unclaimed accounts, ranging from a penny to nearly $3,000.

Notices have gone out to the last known addresses for the people and businesses on the list, but some have been returned, and checks have not been cashed.

The deadline for making a claim is Sept. 8, 2015. After that, the money is absorbed into the county's general fund.
