New Boulevard Fire Station Opens
A 7,900-square-foot fire station that will serve residents in the far eastern San Diego County community of Boulevard opened Friday.
The facility will house up to a dozen firefighters, paramedics and six vehicles from the County Fire Authority and Cal Fire.
"This is a huge upgrade for the backcountry area to have this fire station in Boulevard as a center of public safety services," Supervisor Dianne Jacob said.
She said the facility should reduce response times for the area's 1,800 residents, as well as San Diegans and visitors who get in car crashes on nearby stretches of Interstate 8 that can be difficult to drive.
The station receives electricity from solar panels, and draws water from a well, according to the county.
