California Lawmaker Pushes Vaccinations For Day Care Workers

A California lawmaker wants to require all day care and pre-school workers to get vaccinated in the wake of a measles outbreak.

Sen. Tony Mendoza, a Democrat from Artesia, says day care workers have close contact with children so the state should do all it can to protect children. Mendoza announced his bill, SB792, on Wednesday.

A measles outbreak that started at Disneyland has sickened more than 100 people across the U.S. and in Mexico.

Mendoza's bill would require day care workers to be immunized against influenza, pertussis and measles. Those workers currently face no immunization requirements.

A fellow Democratic lawmaker, Sen. Richard Pan, has proposed another bill that requires school children to get vaccinated unless a child's health is endangered by vaccination.
