Children aren’t the only ones who need to stay current on their vaccinations.
That’s the message from the California Medical Association Foundation. The group is releasing a new guide with recommendations for adults based on age, dosage and vaccine type.
Only about six out of 10 adults in the U.S. got a flu shot last year, according to the CDC. Fewer than three out of 10 adults over the age of 60 in the U.S. received the shingles vaccine.
Foundation president Lisa Folberg said people who believe they don’t need to be vaccinated because diseases like tetanus and measles just aren’t around anymore are wrong.
"We don’t see those things because vaccines work," Folberg said. "And it’s important that we have community immunity to make sure that everyone’s getting vaccinated to prevent those kinds of outbreaks.”
The new vaccine schedule will be available at doctors’ offices throughout California.
