Gusty Winds In San Diego County Mountains, Valleys To Last Until Saturday

Gusty winds blustered near San Diego County's coastal foothills and in the valleys Friday and are expected to stick around into the weekend.

A National Weather Service wind advisory for the mountains and valleys was set to remain in effect until noon Saturday. Sustained wind speeds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected throughout the advisory period, along with gusts of up to 50 mph.

Some mountain areas could see gusts of up to 70 mph, forecasters said.

"Surface high pressure over the Great Basin will bring periods of gusty northeast-to-east winds near the coastal foothills through Saturday morning," according to the weather service.

Forecasters expected the strongest winds Friday morning and Friday night into Saturday morning.

The weather service warned that the gusty winds may cause problems for drivers, especially those in high-profile vehicles. Motorists were advised to use extra caution.
