A wanted man was seriously wounded Tuesday when he allegedly drove an SUV toward members of the San Diego Regional Fugitive Task Force in front of an Alpine condominium complex, prompting four of them to open fire on him.
The multi-agency law enforcement team was trying to arrest the 25-year- old man on a felony warrant in the 2100 block of Arnold Way when the shooting occurred about 11:15 a.m., sheriff's Lt. John Maryon said.
The suspect, whose name was withheld, suffered multiple bullet wounds to his upper body. Medics took him to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he underwent surgery.
An update on his condition was unavailable this evening.
No members of the task force, which consists of personnel with the federal Marshals Service, U.S. Border Patrol, California Highway Patrol and San Diego County Sheriff's Department, were injured, Maryon said.
