Several fires were intentionally set over a two-hour span in the City Heights area early Friday, authorities said.

The arson spree began shortly after 2:30 a.m. in the 5100 block of Wightman Street with debris in the back of a pickup being set on fire, according to San Diego fire-rescue spokesman Lee Swanson.

About 45 minutes later, rubbish on the side of a house in the 3600 block of Knoxie Street was set on fire and 40 minutes after that, a window screen in the 3700 block of Shiloh Road was set ablaze, Swanson said in a statement.

The spree ended around 4:40 a.m. with fire being set to a trash can at Wightman and Shiloh Road, Swanson said.

No injuries were reported and damage was minor, he said.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
