The county took time Wednesday to pay respects to law enforcement officers who lost their lives in the line of duty. Hundred of officers were in attendance.

San Diego County Supervisor Ron Roberts said how officers lost their lives isn’t what made them heroes.

“It’s how they lived their lives,” Roberts said.

Between tears, Robinson spoke about her brother who died at the age of 39.

“I miss him terribly,” Robinson said.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
