San Diego Deputies Offer Holiday Shopping Safety Tips
Holiday shopping will soon be at a fever pitch and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday reminded shoppers to take steps to be safe.

Holiday shopping will soon be at a fever pitch and the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department on Tuesday reminded shoppers to take steps to be safe.

Simple tasks can prevent shoppers from becoming victims, said Capt. Dave Moss during a press conference at the Target in Rancho San Diego.

“By locking our cars and winding our windows up, and making sure that we don't have anything visible within the car, we greatly reduce our chances of becoming victims,” Moss said.

He said preventing one crime often helps to stop others.

“Start thinking of other things such as a garage door opener that you have on your visor, that may be programmed for your garage. There may be a letter in your glove box that has your address,” Moss said. “Now they know where you live.”

The San Diego Association of Governments reports that more than a half a billion dollars will be spent on Black Friday — an average of $163 per county resident.
