Environmental Advocates Urge Support Of Pollution Reduction Act
Environmental advocates are pushing state officials to preserve the impact of a sweeping climate legislation.

Local climate action advocates are pushing state officials to preserve the impact of a sweeping climate measure being considered by lawmakers.

Supporters of Senate Bill 350 — the Clean Energy and Pollution Reduction Act — met Thursday with State Sen. Marty Block. They are looking for his support to defeat last minute amendments that might sap the strength of the legislation.

Nicole Capretz, executive director of the Climate Action Campaign, said an addition to the legislation offered by San Diego Gas & Electric could make it harder for local residents to chose their electricity provider through a community choice program.

SDG&E spokeswoman Amber Albrecht said the utility wants to make sure any potential competitors have the same obligations.

"What we would be looking at is making sure that all energy service providers, its really an equal playing field, so all would be held to the same accountability when reaching the renewable portfolio standard, that 50 percent renewable goal," Albrecht said.
