SDSU Police Investigate Campus Burglary, Sexual Battery
SDSU police are looking into an alleged burglary and sexual battery involving four suspects in a campus residence hall.

San Diego State campus police are investigating a possible burglary and sexual battery that occurred in campus residence halls early Sunday morning involving four suspects.

The suspects allegedly stole the personal belongings of several students after a female student invited them into the dorm, SDSU police Lt. Randy Lawrence said.

Lawrence said one of the suspects asked the female student to touch his groin area. When she refused, he allegedly placed her hand on his genitals, which constitutes sexual battery.

The female student was able to get away and the four men fled. It was later that her roommates realized several items were missing.

Three of the suspects, two juveniles and one adult, arrived at the San Diego Police Department Monday morning accompanied by a parent to talk about the case and “clear it up,” Lawrence wrote in an email.

“The parties were identified and their information was provided to us. We are continuing our investigation and are preparing to conduct interviews,” Lawrence wrote.

A community safety alert was sent out to the SDSU campus Sunday afternoon. Police released images of three of the four suspects from surveillance video. They could not get a good image of the fourth.

KPBS has created a public safety coverage policy to guide decisions on what stories we prioritize, as well as whose narratives we need to include to tell complete stories that best serve our audiences. This policy was shaped through months of training with the Poynter Institute and feedback from the community. You can read the full policy here.
