It is Friday and if you haven't typed on your plans we have ideas for you. Including an amazing number of good musicals wrapping up their shows this Saturday or Sunday. Nina Garin is here. Thank you for coming in. Thank you. List sign-up was something different. Art of Elan kicks off their 10th anniversary season with a free concert at the Sandeno Art Museum. What does it remind us? It is like chamber music group for people who think that they do not like classical music. Their mission is to expose new audiences to classical music and the kind of reach out to kids, grown-ups, everyone. How would you describe the performance is quick There usually small annoying for doing performances in art galleries. Sometimes they pair up with dance groups and also worked with local indie rock bands. Who founded this group? It was founded by Kate have maker and she is a finalist the -- violinists. He still comes back for some shows and still very much involved. Let's hear a bit of the art of élan playing Ontarian folksongs by composer Daniel Wilson. That sounds fine. Also the admission to the museum will be free from 5 to 7 on that day. What else is in store for the Art of Elan the season quick So they are doing some collaborations with the San Diego Symphony in January be are doing a work that features all pieces made in America. They will be doing -- they will to a world premiere piece for solo harp. The also have spring concerts plan at the Art Institute and they have is so set for next summer. That is the Art of Elan performing Tuesday, August 9 at the Museum of art. Also there is a new exhibit at Mingei International Museum . Tell us a bit about him. He is Danish born but lives in Solana Beach and considered be father of craft and DIY movement. He has's house that will be a work of art and has a beautiful succulent garden and there are skullcaps -- sculptures all over. It looks sort of quirky with the -- of sexy and went to go. I hear there re-creating his living room. Because work is so varied they wanted to present them in the element that is in. This week re-creating his living room captures who he is. This exhibit traces the various phases of his career quick So he has different creative periods and started in the 1960s at Berklee in Portland and then moved to Las Vegas and then came to San Diego to teach ceramics. So it is to show off different places where he lived. That is opening Saturday at Mingei International Museum . There is time to catch that but not if you're interested in seeing some of the popular San Diego shows. That is a lot of shows. One of the most popular ones closing is ruthless. It is put on by Moxie and it is about child start who does whatever it takes to get ahead. It is getting rave reviews. That closes this weekend. It is also the last chance to see Peter Pan and moonlight, circle circle has a hip-hop show and the welcome closes their Jesus Christ superstar. I notice there are musicals about music or closing. The Carol King musical is done on Sunday. Chula Vista has a Buddy Holly story. I see there is love that's water musical and then reopening next weekend. It is kind of closing. It is closing there but then next weekend August 11-14 it is moving to California Center for the arts. You can procrastinate a little bit. If you like to sing along with Broadway in your car and in the shower now you can do it in public. There is a show that features a very high-profile Broadway performers in the San Diego Symphony orchestra. They will be playing Broadway music. They will be focusing on very beloved music, right quick Yes. If you want to practice guys and dolls is what they will practice on in the first act. Unconventional chamber music group Art of Élan opens its 10th anniversary season with a free community concert at the San Diego Museum of Art.

The group was formed as a way to make classical music more accessible to people who don't regularly listen to it. Throughout the season, the group's concerts include collaborations with everyone from dance companies to indie rock bands.

This opening performance teams up with Bravo! International Music Academy, and will feature young musicians from around the world playing in unique chamber ensembles. This event also includes free admission to The San Diego Museum of Art from 5 to 7 p.m.

Mingei International Museum presents the first major retrospective devoted to Danish-born, Solana Beach resident Erik Gronborg.

This exhibition showcases Gronborg's various creative periods, including sculpture in cast bronze, carved wood, furniture and ceramics.

His writings and photos of the house and garden that Gronborg and his wife Irina have carefully cultivated will also be on display.

Last-chance plays

Theater

If you've been waiting on buying those play tickets, this may be your last chance.

A variety of shows are closing this weekend, including some music-themed productions like "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" at the Civic Theatre; "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story" at Chula Vista's OnStage Playhouse; Lamb's Players' "American Rhythm," a journey through 100 years of music; and "'Aint Misbehavin': The Fats Waller Musical Show" which closes at North Coast Repertory but moves to California Center for the Arts Escondido Aug. 11 through 14.

It's also the last weekend to catch "Ruthless! The Musical" at Moxie; "Peter Pan" at Moonlight Amphitheatre; Circle Circle Dot Dot's "The Best Goodbye"; Lamplighter's "The Dixie Swim Club"; "Hamlet" at the Coronado Playhouse; and "Jesus Christ Superstar" at the Welk Theatre.

Summer Pops: Sing Along With Broadway!

Bayside Summer Nights (also known as Summer Pops) lets you pretend you're on a Broadway stage with "Sing Along With Broadway!"

Performers Doug LaBrecque, Debbie Gravitte and Christiane Noll join the San Diego Symphony Orchestra to sing a variety of favorites from both classic and contemporary musicals.
