Cast members interviewed for "Inside Poldark" include Aidan Turner, who stars as Ross Poldark, Eleanor Tomlinson, who plays the fiery Demelza, and Luke Norris, who portrays Dr. Dwight Enys. Also interviewed are director Richard Senior, MASTERPIECE executive producer Rebecca Eaton and Andrew Graham, son of "Poldark" author Winston Graham, who reveals that Ross Poldark may well be his father’s alter ego.

Although Graham’s novels were published in the 1940s, the character of Ross Poldark continues to fascinate decades later. Through this new version of the drama an entirely different generation is discovering the charming renegade with a passion for life and strong convictions. “This is a story about a real hero and we don’t have enough heroes on TV these days,” said Turner. “He’s a really interesting character, Ross, and there’s something really genuine about his intentions, and his agenda and what he sets out to do.”

Season 1 begins in 1783, a time when Britain is in a crisis of falling wages, rising goods prices, and civil unrest. Dashing and adventurous, Ross Poldark returns home to Cornwall after fighting in the American Revolutionary War to find his world dramatically changed: his family estate is in ruins, his father has died, and his sweetheart is engaged to another.

Though he is encouraged to pack up and make a new life elsewhere, the stubborn Poldark resolves to change his destiny and restore his lost fortune. As he assembles a motley band of friends and servants, Ross finds a partner equally headstrong to share the twists and turns of his new life. But changing the status quo of this country hamlet creates powerful enemies, and soon Ross is caught between what he knows to be right, and what society dictates.
