San Diego State athletic officials say they've been notified by the NCAA that allegations made against the men's basketball program were not substantiated.

In September, CBS Sports, citing unidentified sources, reported that SDSU's program was under investigation by the NCAA for potential rules violations that included possible improper benefits to recruits.

Said coach Steve Fisher: "These types of allegations are not uncommon in major college athletics. What is uncommon is that they ever come out in the public."

SDSU's athletic department said the notification that the school had been cleared came from the NCAA director of enforcement.

“I am pleased that this confirms what I and our administration have known all along, that as a staff, we take great pride in representing San Diego State University and the men’s basketball program, and conducting this program with the highest integrity,” Fisher said.

Under NCAA rules, San Diego state it could not provide any other details about the inquiry.

Fisher has turned the Aztecs from a moribund program to a perennial NCAA Tournament team since coming to SDSU in 1999. He previously had been the head coach at Michigan, including when he led the Wolverines to the 1989 national championship.

SDSU has won nine Mountain West championships with Fisher as the Aztecs coach, and he's taken the team to the NCAA Tournament six straight seasons and reached the round of 16 twice.
