A summer heat wave is expected to send temperatures soaring in inland San Diego County Thursday through the weekend.

In the forecast for Thursday are highs of 80 to 85 degrees at the beaches, 90 to 95 degrees in inland coastal areas, 92 to 97 degrees in the western valleys, 96 to 101 degrees near the foothills, 93 to 100 degrees in the mountains and 111 to 116 degrees in the deserts.

"High pressure will strengthen over Southern California allowing for a summertime heat wave to bake inland locales through the end of the week," according to the weather service.

San Diegans were advised to avoid potentially serious heat-related ailments by staying well-hydrated, avoiding unnecessary outdoor labor and wearing lightweight, loose clothing.
