More than 100 Marines from Washington, D.C., will entertain the public this week across San Diego County as part of an annual national tour.
The historic Battle Color Detachment will perform patriotic songs, traditional marching music and precision rifle drills. The ceremonial team consists of the Marine Drum & Bugle Corps, Silent Drill Platoon and the Color Guard.
The Marines are part of the “8th & I,” the Corps’ oldest active post, founded in 1801 by President Thomas Jefferson and Lt. Col. William Ward Burrows.
The public has an opportunity to see two free live performances: 9 a.m. Friday at Carlsbad High School, and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. Drivers coming on base will need to show valid identification along with vehicle insurance, registration and IDs for passengers.
Personnel with base access can attend a performance at 3 p.m. Friday at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar.
