Gusty Wind Expected In San Diego County Mountains, Deserts

Gusty winds are expected to develop Monday afternoon in the mountains and deserts of San Diego County.

A National Weather Service wind advisory is set to take effect at 4 p.m. today and extend until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Winds of 20 to 30 miles per hour are expected, along with gusts that may reach 65 mph in some areas.

"A trough of low pressure moving inland through the western states will bring stronger onshore flow to Southern California with periods of strong gusty west winds in the mountains and deserts for late this afternoon into Tuesday evening," according to the weather service.

The strongest winds are expected Monday night into Tuesday morning and again late Tuesday afternoon into early Tuesday evening.

Forecasters said the winds would kick up sand and dust alongside desert roadways, which could make for hazardous driving conditions. The wind may also be strong enough to down tree limbs. Motorists, especially those in high profile vehicles, were urged to use extra caution.
