High surf with sets of up to 10 feet are expected at some San Diego County beaches starting Monday night as a series of west-northwest swells hits the coast.
A National Weather Service high surf advisory is scheduled to extend from 10 p.m. Monday to 2 p.m. Wednesday. Surf of 4 to 7 feet and sets to 10 feet are expected, along with high tides of 4.5 feet at 9:29 p.m. Monday, 4.8 feet at 9:22 Tuesday morning and 4.7 feet at 9:54 a.m. Wednesday.
Forecasters said the first in a series of larger west-northwest swells would arrive in the coastal waters late Monday. The swells will bring high surf Monday night through Wednesday morning and will gradually diminish late Wednesday.
The surf and strong rip currents are expected to lead to dangerous swimming conditions. Large waves may break over jetties and sea walls, and minor beach erosion will be possible, according to the weather service.
