A widely used exit off Interstate 5 will be partially closed next week, according to Caltrans officials.
The closures at Genesee Avenue will occur Monday through Thursday from 10:30 or 11 p.m. until 5 a.m., although only one direction of the freeway will be closed at a time.
These closures will allow construction crews to install temporary wood forms used to support the foundation of the new I-5/Genesee Avenue Bridge.
According to Caltrans, the closures will be:
Monday between 10:30 p.m. and 5 a.m. at all northbound I-5 lanes at La Jolla Village Drive, northbound off-ramp to Genesee Avenue and northbound on- ramp from La Jolla Village Drive.
Tuesday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., at all lanes of I-5 northbound at Genesee Avenue, and all lanes of I-5 southbound (if work on the northbound lanes is complete before 5 a.m.). State Route 56 local bypass is also closed when southbound I-5 freeway lanes are closed.
Wednesday and Thursday between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m. on all southbound I- 5 lanes at Genesee Avenue and the SR-56 local bypass.
On Monday night, northbound I-5 motorists will be detoured to La Jolla Village Drive, then to northbound Interstate 805, and back to northbound I-5.
On Tuesday through Thursday nights, I-5 drivers will be detoured to the Genesee Avenue off-ramp and re-enter using the on-ramp across the intersection. Signs will be placed to alert motorists in advance.
