This weekend brings a celebration of Latin food, music — even an iconic Argentinian leader — plus a salute to "Fiddler on the Roof."

Evita

Theater

San Diego Repertory Theatre stages a beautiful production of "Evita," the hit musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber.

It follows the story of Eva Peron, a woman who went from poverty to the Argentinian First Lady by age 27. Adored by her people as a champion for the poor, she became one of the most powerful women in the world. The show features musical theater favorites including "Another Suitcase in Another Hall" and "Don’t Cry For Me Argentina."

Details: 8 p.m. Friday; 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday; 7 p.m. Sunday; plus additional dates and times through Aug. 27. Lyceum Theatre, 79 Horton Plaza, downtown. $44 to $72; find tickets.

iLatin Food Festival 2017!

Arepas from Venezuela, empanadas from Argentina and paella from Spain are just some of the dishes you will be able to sample at the fifth-annual ¡Latin Food Fest!

The highlight of this two-day event is the Gran Tasting, an all-inclusive event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday that features international food, wine and spirits, chef meet-and-greets, workshops, music and more.

Bayside Summer Nights: To Life! Bock and Harnick On Broadway

Music, Theater

The San Diego Symphony Orchestra brings its annual salute to Broadway, this year focusing on the music of Jerry Bock and Sheldon Harnick.

It begins with Bock & Harnick's "The Apple Tree," the Pulitzer Prize-winning "Fiorello!" and more, as interpreted by a Broadway-veteran cast and the full orchestra. The second half will feature several selections from the duo's most well-known musical, "Fiddler on the Roof."

The concert welcomes special guest Danny Burstein, who was recently nominated for a Tony Award for his role as Tevye in Broadway's 2016 revival of "Fiddler."

Details: 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Embarcadero Marina Park South, 200 Marina Parkway, Embarcadero. $26 to $98; find tickets.

International Mariachi Summit Gala Concert

Music

This weekend, the International Mariachi Summit invites local students to attend workshops and perform with some of the best mariachi musicians and folkloric dancers in North America.

The summit includes a gala concert that is open to the public. On the program is stunning ballet folklórico from the University of Guadalajara, plus the renowned Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlán together with San Diego’s symphonic Mariachi Champaña Nevin, the Orquesta de Baja California and the San Diego Binational Symphony Orchestra.
