'Legacy In Black': A Showcase Of Some Of San Diego's Most Celebrated Artists

There is a unique opportunity in San Diego to appreciate the art of African-American artists with ties to the city. The San Diego African American Museum of Fine Arts (SDAAMFA) and the San Diego History Center have collaborated on "Legacy in Black."

"Legacy in Black" features the work of seven of the city’s most celebrated artists. Gaidi Finnie is the executive director of SDAAMF. He said he hopes this exhibit will showcase the artists' works to a new audience.

“The thing is they don’t have a lot of opportunities to show their work. In fact, as some of them pass away. We’re afraid that it will just disappear that no one will ever see it again,” Finnie said. “We want people to collect art, to see it, to visualize it and know how important it is to our culture to really look and have this in our history. It's important. It’s very important. It’s the reason that we exist."

"Legacy in Black" opened in October. It will run through April 15, 2018 at the San Diego Art History Center.
