San Diego State University sent 180,000 online surveys to alumni and others with ties to the school hoping to understand what people want to see in a new stadium.
School officials hope to build the facility in Mission Valley if SDSU gets voter approval to buy 132 acres of land there.
The survey is part of the process that will shape the final structure.
“It definitely informs us as to what people think this initial concept is. It’ll also help inform us on the type of budget we can formulate to build a stadium because it’ll tell us how much revenue we can generate off the stadium as its currently designed,” said SDSU Athletic Director John David Wicker.
The survey asks about the importance of special events, semi-pro football, pro football, soccer, rugby and concerts. It is part of the effort to be responsive to those that might use the facility.
“Concerts. Professional football. There’s the spring league that’s out there that ... is going to locate somewhere in Southern California and we’d love to have them locate in a new Aztec stadium,” Wicker said.
The facility could serve as a home to a local rugby team.
“We’re interested in what people want to see and then we’ll go out and try and get it and have it in the stadium,” Wicker said.
SDSU sent the survey to people who are alumni or have bought tickets to school sporting events.
