There are 1.6 million people registered to vote ahead of the June primary election in San Diego County. That's a record high according to the San Diego County Registrar of Voters.

The county’s latest voter registration data also shows independent voters, or those who declined to choose a political party, may soon outnumber registered Republicans in the county.

San Diego County Registrar of Voters, Michael Vu, said 37 percent of the county's registered voters identify as Democrats followed by 29 percent as Republican and 29 percent as independent voters.
