Get KPBS & NPR News on Your Phone

There are now several ways you can get KPBS News from your phone.  Through a partnership with NPR, you can hear the latest local news through a mobile Web interface. For those without mobile Internet access, you can listen to the latest news simply by dialing (619) 618-2635.

We're also using Twitter to highlight the top stories of the day and publish breaking news. See below for more details.

Mobile Updates From NPR

Description: Access NPR news and features via your phone's mobile web browser Access NPR news and features via a phone call
Requirements: Phone/PDA with a mobile web browser and subscription to a data plan through your carrier Any mobile device that can make phone calls (including land line phones)
Cost: FREE - Neither NPR nor stations charge for this service. Data usage charges depend on the calling/data plan you have with your carrier, and listening to audio via click-to-call links uses voice/calling plan minutes. Any SMS charges are at your standard text messaging rate. FREE - Neither NPR nor stations charge for this service. Your carrier will count minutes used against your monthly voice/calling plan minutes.

Want to be connected?  Now you can check KPBS News updates through your mobile phone! We send out weekday updates on interesting, important, and breaking San Diego news stories.

Explained simply, Twitter is a flexible networking service designed to allow short messages to be easily shared between users.

There are many ways you can receive our Twitter updates on your mobile phone:

  • You can view our tweets on your mobile phone's browser at m.twitter.com/kpbsnews.
  • You can sign up for an account online and activate phone notifications to get text message news updates.
  • You can also receive text messages directly on your mobile phone without signing up for an account online: Just send a text message to 40404 with the words follow kpbsnews. Twitter will send you a text message asking you to confirm with your name (which will become your account name).
