El Cortez has been San Diego's leading landmark since its first grand opening in 1927. Its colorful past is vivid in the minds of all native San Diegans. Opened on Thanksgiving Day 1927 and nestled atop San Diego's Cortez Hill, this carefully restored landmark is once again hosting San Diego's finest events.
Since 1927 Presidents Dwight D. Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, William Jefferson Clinton and Barack Obama have all entertained in the 24k Don Room. Today influential events include San Diego Magazine's "50 People to watch" and praiseworthy “Charitable Events Registry Awards". The Don Room at El Cortez serves as host to numerous corporate events, fundraising functions, and television and movie projects.
El Cortez accommodates from 20 to 375 persons in an ambiance that will be especially memorable. The outdoor “urban” Terrace with wood-burning fireplace is the perfect spot for guests to mingle over a cocktail, and seasoned party goers delight with our mild San Diego weather under a canopy in front of the fireplace to later join in the Don Room and dance the night away!
