Lyric Opera San Diego (LOSD) has been bringing accessible, affordable opera and musical theater productions to San Diego since 1979. The company proudly performs operas and musicals from the European and American tradition, in English, presenting the finest young musical talent available with full orchestra and chorus accompaniment. All regular shows are staged with chorus and orchestra.
A vital part of LOSD’s mission is commitment to education. The central piece of their educational activity is the Summer Academy for the Performing Arts which operates during the month of July and offers intensive training to talented middle and high school students. During the regular season, their Outreach Department presents preview performances to students and social service organizations throughout San Diego County. Insight lectures about the productions are offered prior to all regularly scheduled performances.
