KPBS Morning Edition

'Where News Matters'

What many San Diegans first hear when they wake up in the morning are the voices of KPBS Radio's Maureen Cavanaugh and Dwane Brown with Morning Edition. The award-winning radio broadcasters are mindful that they're keeping listeners company through those hazy, first cups of coffee or frustrating morning commute.

KPBS Morning Edition Co-Anchors

Maureen Cavanaugh has been on the air for 17 years in San Diego -- 10 of those years she's served as Morning Edition host here at KPBS. "I have always felt so connected and protective of the people who listen to me in the morning," said Cavanaugh. "I want to reach out and say 'OK, there are somethings that have happened that you're probably not going to like very much, but you know, just listen to me and we'll make it through.'"
As a broadcast journalist for more than 20 years, Dwane Brown likens his role as KPBS Morning Edition co-anchor to a waiter, and says he wants to do his best to serve his listeners. "I just want to take complex information and try my best to make it digestible," said Brown. "News, in and of itself, can be controversial, disheartening; it can ruin people's career based on what you say," he said. "I don't take that lightly. I know I have a responsibility to try and get it right."
