Road Trip with Huell Howser Tuesday, August 12 at 11 pm The host hears the rich history of the area and samples famous apple pies in Julian, the ultimate Sunday drive destination. Wonderland Saturday, August 16 at 11:30 pm San Diegan and local filmmaker Noah Tafolla goes back to Ocean Beach to check out scene. Road Trip with Huell Howser Monday, August 18 at 11 pm The host gets more than his feet wet when he visits the Blue Line Oasis in Compton, Water Conservation Garden in El Cajon, the Wall Gazing Gallery in Fullerton and Music Center Fountain in Los Angeles. Agriculture: San Diego's Working Water, An Envision San Diego Special Thursday, August 21 at 8 pm The reasons why farmers are the first to ration water are explored and how rationing is affecting their livelihood. And a look at why Southern California is in the midst of one of the driest years in history includes the investigation of how a tiny fish called the delta smelt, facing extinction, could change San Diego County’s landscape forever. Envision San Diego: Financial Security Forum Sunday, August 24 at 3 pm KPBS’ Gloria Penner and local reporters examine why people retire and why they don’t, why more people are working after normal retirement age, what it takes to guarantee a comfortable retirement without paid employment, how and when to prepare financially for retirement, and what is the role and future of Social Security in those plans. Envision San Diego: Global Warming: San Diego’s Carbon Footprint Sunday, August 24 at 4:30 pm The efforts of San Diego businesses and local government to address global warming are seen with a focus on the impact, both positive and negative, San Diego business' and government have had on global climate change. Envision San Diego: Alzheimer’s: The Cost of Growing Old Sunday, August 24 at 4 pm The programs explores the dire impact Alzheimer’s is predicted to have on our health care system, including interviews with David Shenk, award-winning author of The Forgetting: Alzheimer’s, Portrait of an Epidemic and William Thies, Ph.D., vice president of the Alzheimer’s Association. Road Trip with Huell Howser Friday, August 29 at 11pm When the host travels to Big Bear, in San Bernadino County, he takes a canoe trip, gets a view of the San Bernardino Mountains from a lookout tower, checks out an animal park and visits a historical museum among other places. Meth Next Door, An Envision Special Sunday, August 31 at 3 pm A look at the impact crystal methamphetamine use has on public safety and those addicted – from housewives to business owner to teenagers – is presented in this KPBS-TV special. Tapped Out: San Diego’s Water Future: An Envision San Diego Special Sunday, August 31 at 3:30pm KPBS and 10news reportes explore the future of San Diego’s water supply. Government experts are interviewed in the KPBS studio. Envision San Diego: Fire Next Time Sunday, August 31 at 4 pm KPBS reporters and other local journalists reflect on San Diego County’s 2007 wildfires with stories regarding damage assessment, disaster communications and fire prevention. |
