Let's be honest: The real villain in this case is SOHO, which totally dropped the ball on protecting a valuable part of San Diego history. The Salvation Army had no idea that the building was anything other than a bee-infested eyesore. And the city of San Diego, like most Southern California cities, has no vision beyond collecting the next building permit fee. But SOHO should know better. This is not the first time that the organization and its leadership has failed to act effectively, and our city is the lesser for it.
