Pensions No Longer Top Benefit For Blue Collar City Workers

I'm not sure Ruxandra understands what a 401k is.

A 401k lets you allocate your retirement money to suit your needs, be it in risky investments like stocks, or in safe investments like government bonds.

Our Dying Freeways

The half cent sales tax measure to fund transportation has had a HUGE impact on SD. We actually get new roads and public transit projects built with impressive results. Hail TransNet!

Roundtable: Area Congressional Reps Are Up Against Debt Ceiling

I like how the guest picked up on your personal bias with your comments about the Tea Party.

I do think this sort of program would be more effective if the host took a more neutral stance.

S.D. Unified Officials Discuss Budget Cuts, Community-Based School Reform

We should account for benefits and pensions when comparing to private sector compensation. My sense is we probably need to cut union member salaries more to get to parity with the reality of the current labor market.

To Clean Up SD Budget Dump, Talk Trash

Trash collection is not free just because you don't have an itemized bill. Just like police and fire protection. City residents are paying for all of these.

Now if there is additional revenues needed we should talk about the best way to get those. Talking about getting trash for free currently is as crazy as saying police and fire are free. Nonsense.

Are You For Or Against The Proposed Plan To Expand Interstate 5?

Population is going to increase whether we expand I-5 or not. The Transnet report shows 15 hour a day congestion in 2030 if we do nothing based on population growth. Rail can't accommodate our low density construction and traffic patterns (many to many). Get it done!

"Without improvements, the I-5 freeway’s future performance will degrade to more than 15 hours of congestion a day in 2030 during a typical work week, with free flow conditions only occurring in the middle of the night"

Opponents Of I-5 Expansion Proposal Come Out In Force

I'd like to see other solutions too, but given all the constraints, I don't see how they can really help the congestion problem.

Residents Pack Hearing On San Diego I-5 Expansion

90% of people get around with cars and every retailer and business has deliveries by truck. Even if we build more rail we need roads and we should invest in moving cars and trucks more efficiently. I was wondering about the fuel efficiency vs speed. I looked it up. A car burns 3 times as much fuel per mile moving at 5pmh vs 60mph. We would actually have a huge reduction in pollution if cars moved smoothly from place to place instead of being stuck in traffic. Build it.
