Wow, as a wife of a retired USC professor we talk about this topic all the time. It is not just the fact that we truly are "dumbing down" our society, but we have become, since WW2, the most consumptive country-per-capita on the planet. We use entertainment to mask any meaningful discussion of issues that are critical to our future.
My life is set. I have a beautiful home overlooking the ocean in Carlsbad. I have no health care worries. But I have 7 grandchildren who may not have it so good and as US citizens, who are less than 5% of the world's population, they fail to realize that they are consuming over 30% of the world's resources... they are to busy listening to their I-Pod (which I purchased for them - same on me).
I don't know where Fudge went, but Maureen, keep up the good work with more, more, more programs like this one.
