Kenneth Coulson is correct on this. I was blindsided by that question and had no idea how to answer it in less than a minute (I'm a historian afterall) and therefore did so in an inadequate way. Its important to contextualize these things of course because most people's idea of 'withdrawal" is a guy chained to a bed having nightmares like in the movies, when in fact withdrawal like most things with drugs takes many forms. Coffee, for example, also produces withdrawal symptoms that are "flu-like". I've actually experienced these. They're unpleasant but if you don't fetishize them they can be overcome.
