Well in afghanistan, their society has decided that it is morally correct to torture and kill people who aren't muslim. They decided it is morally correct to perform female "circumcision" on baby girls. They decided it is morally correct to perform honor killings on women who do something against shariah law.
Their society has decided those issues of morality. Does that mean they are morally correct?
No one is forcing them to drive the taxis, no one is beating them to death, how dare you compare being gainfully employed to slavery? There is no comparison between slavery that took place in this country and taxi drivers working.

If they say "the machine is broken" or anything, I immediately say "ok, I need to find another taxi". Can you guess what they say? "Ok, ok, it works, I will take you"

Bailarin while I agree with the beginning of your post, the last part is a matter of the free market. If two people can do the exact same job, why pay someone more? As a business owner, I would certainly, absolutely hire the one who required less pay.
People in American who are demanding higher wages need to come to the realization that their labor is not worth as much as they seem to think it is. This is a global era, and the labor pool is also global. Sorry, but now there are tens of millions more highly skilled workers available for hire around the world whether we like it or not.
