White House Details Plan To Fight Terrorism At Home

The ACLU has been urging people to fight the provision that Missionacomplished mentions above for quite a while now. (But they never say "murder. Which they certainly would say if it were the case.) Here is a link to the latest: http://www.aclu.org/blog/national-sec...

Dozens Arrested As Police Break Up 'Occupy' Tent City Again

VerbalRemedy hit the nail on the head.

Also, since the 1st Amendment says"...and to petition the government for redress of grievances" it is obvious the writers knew the government might not always appreciate what those assembling would have to say.

Roundtable: ACLU Vs. Escondido

I'm an ACLU supporter and a Unitarian Universalist but I tend to think the ACLU is wrong on this one. If it's open to anybody who wants to say something and the city of Escondido is not telling anybody what to say or not say, then making specifically religious statements is within the "free exercise of religion" part of the First Amendment given to the people, not the "establishment of religion" part forbidden to the government.

It would be more clear, however, if nobody had to be signed up/scheduled by a specific person. They should make it first come, first served, with a time limit (and preference to those who have not spoken in recent weeks).

AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio Greeted By Protesters in San Diego

The 220 were the people INSIDE the country club at the luncheon. The 150 were the protesters outside. (Had to look up the newspaper story to see where you got your numbers.)

But I don't dispute that polls say people favor laws like SB1070. But laws and majority opinion can both be wrong and have been sometimes -- slavery, Jim Crow, Japanese internment as a few examples -- and people who can see that have the responsibility to work to change things. We might even bring you on board one of these days, oldschool.

AZ Sheriff Joe Arpaio Greeted By Protesters in San Diego

Wow! Oldschoolcool must have been at a different protest than I was, because I saw almost all people opposed to Arpaio and very few in support.

Schwarzenegger Orders 224 National Guard Troops To Border

Yeah, and while we're at it, why don't we have a death penalty for speeding and illegal parking and public drunkenness and everything else we don't approve of...

Federal Judge's Decision on Prop 8 Could Have Variety Of Effects

Rx4GoodHealth -- Do you really support marriage equality or are you trying to make the rest of us look bad? Disagreement is one thing but don't be abusive. Even though I disagree with Kelvin, I applaud him for keeping civil in the face of Rx's abuse.

Activists Say Immigrant's Death Demonstrates Need For Immigration Reform

The whole thing is very sad. Mr. Hernandez had lived in San Diego for more than 25 years, since he was 14 or 15. Unlike other offenses, entering without papers doesn't go away when you reach adulthood, and there is apparently no statute of limitations. There was no way for him to legalize his status. He had been torn away from his home, his wife and his children, and got caught trying to come back. I can't imagine anybody in his circumstances NOT trying to escape.

The problem with having excessive laws is that it puts you in the position of having to use force to make people comply. With tragic results in this case.
