I first heard about Leonard Knight at the Outsider's Art Museum in Baltimore. I first visited Salvation Mountain in 2000 and wrote about it for Salon.com (http://www.salon.com/2001/07/31/proph...)
I visited Slab City again last year and saw Leonard. He was clutching the plaque from Boxer and displayed it front and center in every photo and conversation. Despite his age, the mountain had grown tremendously in the intervening decade. Again, I wrote about SA, but this time for my own blog. (http://www.wanderingnotlost.org/2011/...).
I had heard that Leonard was in a home. The passing of an era. Thanks for the update--and GREAT photos!
