S.D. Voters To Decide On Strong Mayor

The people of San Diego should REALLY read what this article is about.
It is not about keeping a "strong Mayor" form of government. It is about adding another several 100"s of thousands of dollars to a broke and non functioning sytem, by adding another "council" seat.

High-Speed Rail In California Getting $2 Billion

The State Government and all the politicians can crow about "high speed rail", and all the jobs it will create. But, this is just another way to waste money. A fifth grader can see that the numbers don't add up. On top of which, the newly update figures on costs and ridership , are not what the "people" voted for. You can't change the rules after the fact. NO operating subsidies are allowed by LAW. If this is such a good idea, why has not one private company or companies offered to build it ?

California Adopts New Rules For Building Green

This may be the last straw to break the camels back. Just what California needs is more mandated regulations to STOP our businesses from increasing jobs (ie: construction) , attracting new business (ie: jobs) to California, at a time which has been coming for several years. I don't believe there is one person in Sacramento that has a brain. Lets hope Meg Whitman actually gets elected and does what she is promising. If it stands in the way of jobs, get rid of it.

S.D. Small Businesses May Soon Have Competitive Edge

If the City Council want to improve our local economy. The so called increased costs is BS. Think about getting rid of layer upon layer of regulations which only large Companies can afford. Also, as a Charter City, we don't have to issue jobs at "prevailing rates" which by your own every study and expert has proven to increase costs on public sector contracts in the neighborhood of 20-30% at the very least. There are plenty of Small and Medium size Companies which are qualified , and have the expertise to do the majority of City Contracts at a lower cost than "Union Prevailing Wage" contracts call for. It's time for the City to get real in todays marketplace.
You might even be able to get managed competion of City services without the Unions telling you what to do (and the majority of the taxpayers have told you what to do, instead of the small minority of less than 11% nationwide union members) on costs.

S.D. Unified Won't Go After Federal Grants

But of course San Diego Unified will not go after reform money. The School Board (read Teachers Union) doesn't want anybody telling them what to do .

Has any of the Parents out there realized the biggest hold up to ANY reform is the "Union First" mantra. Followed closely by " Must have at least 4 adminstrative positions for every actual teacher in a class room. I have looked at the School Board, San Diego Board of Education, and both have at least 50 % more persons than we need. Especially in the top administrative positions.

Does S.D. Unified Need A Superintendent?

Why doesn't the School Board just say what they believe. "We don't need a Superintendant because we have a Union which tells us what to do.

Heads Of UC, CSU Want Big Funding Increases

As most people know, just like the "State", the UC and CSU system doesn't have a income problem, they have a SPENDING problem. Every adminstrator, above the level of secretary should take an immediate pay cut of at least 10 percent, cut out any paid Holidays over 8 per year , make each employee pay at least 25% of any medical insurance, get rid of defined benefits and go to a retirement system that is more in line with the real world. And especially get rid of Chancellors which sit around and do nothing, but take credit for everything.

S.D. Already Feeling Impact Of Pension Payment

Bare bones budget is not what I call the City. If you walk around ANY department, I bet you will find at least 2 "chiefs" for every "indian" Cut that down and that includes City Council staff and Mayor's staff, then operating funds will be plenty.
