KPBS has a planned power outage, due to set up of our new backup generator, scheduled for Saturday, May 18th from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., impacting our live stream, FM and TV.
Thank goodness for the change. I've been listening to public radio for 20 years or so, and the thing that I despise the most is how news, discussion, politics, and perspectives simply has to play second fiddle to classical music. I *like* classical music... but not everyone who listens to public radio does.
I personally cannot stand jazz, which is the second public radio music style.
So I do applaud this change. I'm not happy about every program. Frankly, a couple are just terrible, and you've missed some great opportunities for even better comment, but this is a definite step forward.
I lived in Mississippi years ago when the format changed on Mississippi Public Radio. That was in 2004, I believe, when they ditched the blocks of classical music from viewpoints from around the world.
Congratulations. KPBS is now only 8 years behind Mississippi. Anyone who thinks this is a problem is ignoring the world.
