New State Law Decriminalizes Possession of Marijuana

I can only scratch my head and wonder. Why would lawmakers increase the demand for cannabis but not allow an increase in supply? Do they enjoy feeding the black market violence? Do local police not have enough medical marijuana gardens being robbed? Why on Earth would they purposefully line the pockets of street dealers? We need to legalize the production of cannabis for recreation purposes. This is the only way to combat the scourge of prohibition related violence.

Study Says Prop. 19 Unlikely To Affect Drug Groups' Revenues

In July Rand said Prop 19 would drop the price of cannabis by 80%. Now it says it will only effect 2-4% of cartel profits? This just smells fishy. It either drops the price significantly and effects the profit or it doesn't. It was almost like the ONDCP changed it's mind and comissioned another study by Rand to support today's talking points.

US, Mexican Authorities Say Prop. 19 Won't Squelch Drug Cartel Violence

Just a thought. Why would we listen to the same government institutions that continue to fail at preventing drug violence? If they knew what to do about it shouldn't they have done it already after 30+ years of the War on Drugs? The violence has gotten worse, not better. The status quo does not work. It is time to drag the bureaucrats away from the gravy train that is the War on Drugs and make actual reforms that will make a difference.

Would Legalizing Marijuana Cut Law Enforcement Costs?

"....incarcerated for marijuana charges alone – and that’s all marijuana charges: possession, transport and sale"

That is not ALL marijuana charges, you forgot (I hope) cultivation. If you grow 1 plant you will be charged with a felony with penalities of 16-36 months. Please add these numbers to your misleading statistics.

Tougher Regulations Coming for SD Medical Marijuana Dispensaries

Making patients walk or drive outside of their neighborhoods to obtain doctor recommended medicine is wrong. Non-access to medication is already a problem in our elderly communities. We should not want to make the situation worse. SD City Council please do the right thing.
