Gov. Calls For Review Of Calif. Sex Offender Laws

Sorry everyone, but I'm unable to provide the link here for some reason or another. Just go to the CASOMB website and then go to reports. Education is a wonderful thing San Diego, but it takes work!

Gov. Calls For Review Of Calif. Sex Offender Laws

Typical politicians! The CASOMB published their recommendations in a report that was just released to the public in January of 2010. Here it is for anyone really serious about solving the problem.

Many of these recomendations were made in the past, but politicians like Senator George Runner and radio talk show host Rick Roberts vehemently rejected them. As long as we focus our attention on punishment and completely ignore prevention, then we will continue to have more of the same.

Girls' Deaths Reignite Calls For More Predator Laws

Thank you MSLGWCEO for posting those statistics with their sources. If more people would take the time to understand this issue, then perhaps we can solve it and never have to experience another tragedy such as this again.

I've always thought of KPBS as being the the place to go for intelligent dialogue, but on this issue, and for a very few exceptions, I was wrong. The constant bomdbardment of sex offenders being broadcast by KPBS over the last couple of weeks has taken it's toll on me, so I've turned off my radio and most likely will not return until they regain their sanity. Whatever happened to progressive thinking KPBS?

Legal Experts Say 1-Strike Law For Sex Offenders Already Exists

It is very disappointing that KPBS has joined the main stream media's feeding frenzy on the issue of sex offenders. What I believed at one time to be a format of progressive thinking, has succumbed to the fear of a very few dangerous individuals and a hysterical public. You have become part of the mob mentality without any regard to the facts on sexual offenses. You just pass on the myths as they were passed on to you without searching for the truth first. But then again, who wants to learn the truth if it dispels a myth about a despised person.

Painting all sex offenders with a broad brush is like treating a cut on the arm with a full body cast. We have families and friends that refuse to allow people like shoshi to force them to abandon their loved ones based solely on the myth that they have a mental impairment that can't be repaired. The fact is the majority of us have nothing more wrong with our mental capacity then a temporary case of poor judgment that did not involve any violence whatsoever.

Hundreds of thousands of us go on with our lives without ever committing another sex crime. The media doesn't report those statistics because the public doesn't want to hear them. They want to condemn us, and anyone that sympathizes with us because of their own fears that they may be what they despise. I know this to be fact because I was on the other side of the fence at one time.

I'll leave you with this quote, and just maybe it might provoke rational thought. Question why our politicians can react so quickly on this issue, but allow so many others to go unresolved.

“The state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people. As long as the government is perceived as working for the benefit of the children, the people will happily endure almost any curtailment of liberty and almost any deprivation.”

Mein Kampf, Adolf Hitler, Publ. Houghton Miflin, 1943, Page 403. This quote is not found in any online copy of Mein Kampf.

Become part of the solution, not part of the problem.

Sex Offender Law Enforcement Flawed?

I am not proud to say it, but I am low level registered sex offender. 5 years ago I made a very poor choice with a 16 year old girl. While extremely intoxicated at a weekend party, I engaged in mutual touching with this girl. Almost a year later the police came to my home and said they were informed of this crime by the girls mother, who was told by another mother, who heard about it through a friend of the girls. I pled guilty to oral copulation of a 16 yr. old minor, spent 8 months in county jail, 3 years probation, 2 years of sex offender therapy, lifetime registration, I lost custody of my 3 kids, and spent thousands of dollars in fines and therapy fee's.

I have since completed all court ordered supervision and therapy with no violations. I have also, voluntarily maintained sobriety for almost 5 years now. I try very hard now to live an exemplary life, not just for my kids, but for all that may be following my previous lifestyle.

You may wonder if I'm angry about what happened to me, and I will answer you we a resounding, "YES!" I am angry at myself for what I did, for what I put my family and friends through because of my selfish behavior, but as my family and friends have already done, I have finally forgiven myself and have moved on.

My anguish for Chelsea King and her family is equaled only to my anger at John Gardner. I'm not going to blame his family, the system, or even society for what he has done, because no one can accurately predict what anyone is capable of doing. I put the blame for this tragedy soley on John Gardner, and no one else.
