Thank you for asking how the media is handling the reporting of the cases. The responsible part of reporting in the media is to include what people can do to prevent abuse. Sex offender laws don't work and are very costly to our community.
We need to educate people with the facts and figures about sexual abuse. Most abuse happens within the family by someone the family trusts and knows, or 90 %. The stats are 1 out of every 4 girls and 1 out of every 6 boys are abuse before the age of 18. Please address that fact and what we can do to educate people. If you are interested in learning more about the economic impact of CSA in San Diego, please let me know.
Please learn about evidence based programs like Darkness to Light Stewards of Children prevention training that is provided every month in San Diego. Next training April 13th, in Mission Valley.
