Just got back from watching The Descendants and while it is a good movie to watch I'm not entirely sure I agree with the nominations. I left the theater feeling perplexed more than anything. The movie gave me a sense of serenity due to the closeness of the story with my life thus far. It's well shot and scripted as well and everything points to a state of "subtle-ness" You really have to appreciate all the subtle development to enjoy this movie I think.
George does do a good job but then I think everyone did as well. On the other hand though I felt the movie lacking in depth for characters and story. The movie was predictable and one premise driven, even with the subtle developments of the character and family. Maybe being subtle in all areas except the affair is the problem for me.
I love comedy! It's my number one genre :) Having said that I know and can appreciate that people don't always understand comedy the same way. Harold and Kumar is one of those types of comedies. I can certainly appreciate Mission's comments, to a lesser extent, but she has to understand that she probably isn't getting "it." It's really that simple.
A person who loves comedy or a comedian will find many things funny compare to a normal person who just likes comedy. It really is just a matter of whether or not you "get it" or not. For example, I love Married with Children and Futurama. I laugh tons. My three 20+ nephews don't understand most of what is being played onscreen, hence they don't laugh as much. They simply just don't get it to be able to laugh.
Cho is funny and a pretty good actor. Here's a clip for Mission to laugh at :) Oh, and as Beth have already stated, claiming you "know" what it is like on/off screen and accusing people you really don't know besides info on the net is low and ignorant. If your life sucked that much it's just too bad but don't go around thinking everyone else is the same. That's ridiculous and again IGNORANT.
I see you love the movie too. I only knew about it because Alan Tudyk is one of my favorite actors, since Firefly. I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and the gore is just well done, like the evil dead series back then. Here's to more people finding out about this movie and maybe we'll get another film!
I have to agree with Kaplan about his viewpoints. I tried to watch The Playboy's Club because I think Amber heard is a pretty good actress I couldn't stomach it entirely through the show. I think like most shows on TV nowadays they are meant for the new "generation" of kids rather than 40 year olds like me, even though most kids don't know much about the history of the shows.
There are fan made restoration of the originals as well and some are very very well done. Unfortunately, the only way to get these versions are through pirating. I have not seen any of them except for the screen comparisons but am tempted to find and download them if I want to enjoy the originals. I am not a fan of the enhancements Lucas has bestowed on the films. Some changes doesn't make sense to me at all but then again it's not my universe to begin with.
Slightly off topic here but still relevant. I wanted people to be aware of a few things going on during Irene. Just have a look yourself and do what you think is right,
I myself will not be considering any purchases from Best Buy from now on and will persuade as many people as I can to do the same thing. That's my stance. This kind of thing should not happen during a crisis especially when the basic necessity is in dire need by the people hurt and left hurt by Irene. It is just too despicable imo.
Alright, ,this is late but I just watched The Smurfs movie and it is much better than Cowboys and Aliens. It is just a fun movie family movie, simple and clean really. Take the kids, enjoy the movie yourself if you ever liked the cartoon series (which I do, a lot). Here's hoping the late readers will read this and go see it! :D
I'm still betting and hoping horror flicks will make great use of 3D to scare the audiences. I have yet to find a horror movie that scares me rather then just entertain. I'm very excited so I'm crossing my fingers on this to happen!!!
The movie was alright. The better acting came from the apes and monkey in addition to a few other supporting cast members like the guy the runs the horrible facility (forgot his name, he's in RED). The story was a little slow for me but otherwise acceptable. I like the original Planet of the Apes, not the sequels that follow, and ever since Burton's remake had been hoping for another but much more well made. I think I found it in this movie and will be enjoying it for a long time :)
I've already commented a lot on your previous 3D thread not too long ago but wanted to reiterate to others that companies are backing up 3D to make it commonplace. This does not mean we have quality 3D materials and sadly the demand is really just making it worse much quicker for the consumers. Generations today like my young nieces and nephews to the adult nieces and nephews think this 3D is fantastic because it is their first experience. The black and white hitchcock movie was done better than most 3D movies today but they won't ever watch or no Hitchcock.
Still, demand will surely and hopefully improve the quality over time and hopefully the technology (phones, tv, movies, etc.) will get better and the content will be done more properly and in 3D and not just a "plane" conversion to 3D *cringes on the thought of Airbender*
