Two Bald Eagles Build Nest Near Ramona, Bringing Rare Sight

Did they file an environmental impact report before they started construction on the nest? Did they get the needed permits? Are they paying taxes? What school district is it in? Are there potential traffic control problems (e.g. with Ramona's airport during fire fighting season). So many things to worry about. This story should never have been published for the sake of the birds.

Poll Shows Prop 30 Could Get Support It Needs

I think voters are overwhelmed by the information or propaganda being thrown at them. They've either thrown in the towel and decided not to vote or taken refuge in the last line of defense the voter has, "When in doubt, vote no!" That takes care of the propositions. As for the candidates, the fall back position is, "When in doubt, toss the bums out!" And it may also apply the closer it gets to election day. We really need something more like the British system: 1) Strict time limits on campaigning, 2) Strict limits on the amount of money that can be spent. To wich I would add a third, 3) One day for a nation-wide primary and one day for a final election. Period.

Week in Review: Is Manchester Another Pulitzer or Hearst?

Comparing Manchester with Pulitzer or Hearst doesn't do them justice. Look closer to home. Compare him with James Copley or maybe Helen on her "bad hair" days.

U-T Owner Manchester Shows Interest In Tribune Company

Does that mean the U-T circulation figures are in the negative numbers. More importantly, what about ad sales?
The Chicago Tribune, the Los Angeles Times, and the Hartford Courant all used to be fine papers. No longer. So, all Papa Doug can do is make them worse.

KPBS 89.5FM Grows in San Diego County

The change is no surprise. That's where KPBS;'s big donors are. One Irwin Jacobs is worth more than all of East County. Bless his heart. Try XLNC at 104.9 for classical music while KPBS gets its act together. XLNC is based in Tijuana and offers a different approach to classical music. I find the two together make a nice mix and having two classical stations in the area is a rarity any more. And, if you're on the broadcast signal line from LA you can try the stations up there. Failing all that, don't be so lazy. Pull out all those LPs and CDs you've got and crank up your players.

Local ‘Super PACs’ Making Major Statement In San Diego Mayor’s Race

I've never seen any news reports about this but somebody might know. With all this money flowing to the media, especially television, from the politicians and PACs is any money flowing the other way? Do the stations, their networks, or their owners make contributions to the various candidates? Seems like a sweetheart deal, or is there some law that forbids it? Just curious.

Housing Construction Boom Transforms San Diego State

35,000? SDSC had more students than that when I was there in the 1960s. Course the problem then was parking not beds. Back then people slept two in a bed and two cars shared a single parking space. What a difference fifty years makes.
