For anyone interested in Ted Williams' time growing up in San Diego, I would urge you to seek out a book that is exclusively devoted to that subject (but not mentioned in this article). The book is the joint project of nine members of the Society for American Baseball Research (SABR), mostly people from the San Diego area - including Bill Swank and Tom Larwin. The book goes into Ted's childhood, heritage, high school career, and his two years with the San Diego Padres in 1936 and 1937.
The name of the book? THE KID: TED WILLIAMS IN SAN DIEGO.
Impressed as I was with the research done by so many admirers from the San Diego area, it was my pleasure to edit the book.
