I do not see what is wrong about having convenient parking. I have to run errands to the park and pickup and drop off things. Having close-in spots that are usually open during non-peak hours is very important to my volunteer activities in the park. This idea seems a bit elitist as it will make using the park harder for those of us without chauffeurs. Also are they talking about closing the through street? This would mean it would be a very long drive to go from one side of the park to the other or drop off people inside the park.
