Kevin Faulconer Sworn In As San Diego Mayor

Yes, I agree philosopher3000. I expect more of the same establishment cronyism and
business as usual from Faulconer. But overruling his veto is a major plus for the city
council.

Marine Sgt. Jacob Hess Is First US Military Death In Afghanistan In 2014

California Defender,
Your comment says it all. Will this country ever learn? Republican and Democrat
politicians to blame for it. The day their grown children have to be the first ones
to go, would change the whole saber rattling and war making over night is my guess.

California Attorney General Appeals Judge's Ruling On San Diego County's Gun Rules

Hey muchapoo1,
I do not expect or want you or your gun to protect me. Yes, the police are over-worked, but there is a police force for a reason. Many police officers are steadfastly against a vigilante populace, taking care of crime on their own, with no training, and
plenty of trigger happy citizens wanting to be wanna be cops. For generations, my family has lived in this country without having guns in the home, and that includes my father and uncles who served in world war II, and basically wanted nothing to do with them afterwards. They were hardly the cowardly type after serving in war. It is your opinion that any home without a gun is at the hands of criminals. I believe that an increasingly armed populace makes the country much more dangerous, and for the reasons I stated. Plenty of irresponsible and careless citizens, later lamenting that a child or other person was accidently killed with their weapon. Nothing LOL about that.
You are entitled to your opinion, I just totally disagree.

California Attorney General Appeals Judge's Ruling On San Diego County's Gun Rules

The whole American "gun mentality" defies logic to begin with. Why do so many
Americans want to own and carry guns in the first place? Some entrenched, handed down mentality, that says that the wild west should be continued? Until someone in
authority really has the conviction and "cajones" to take on this issue and the gun lobby, I don't see any progress, as far as tighter restrictions at gun shows, background checks, and the numerous news stories, about gun violence, people accidently shooting themselves and others, including children, because guns are left in the open, in homes. In my opinion, not one child's death is worth all the preaching about "the right to bear arms and the second amendment.

San Diegans Head To Polls To Choose Alvarez Or Faulconer As Mayor

If JeanMarc you honestly believe that in this country there is never any racism or elitism in electing someone, well you are indeed living in denial and in a bubble.
You are correct when you state that there is too much apathy in the electorate and
not enough voter participation. Perhaps for a myriad of reasons, especially in lower-income communities. But this is America, with the terrible history it has with race and
class. Guess I have lived long enough here to know what a lot of opinions are about Hispanics and barrios. Unfortunate but true.

Faulconer Defeats Alvarez For Mayor; Vows To Unite San Diego

Lots of right wing chest puffing and cockiness today, trashing David Alvarez in any way they can. A good man lost yesterday. Kevin Faulconer won using the race and class card. Pitting one set of neighborhoods against another, and now of course says he will bring all of San Diego together, and unite us all, blah, blah, blah. And lets call it like it really is, many San Diegans did not want to see a latino elected as mayor. Someone from THAT other side of town. Lets have some honesty here. The rest of us were not born yesterday. The one good thing about this election is that acting mayor Todd Gloria and the present council (majority democrat), will pick Faulconer's replacement and if its another democrat that will provide a veto proof majority, to reverse any of Faulconer's vetos. There is some poetic justice in all this after all.

San Diegans Head To Polls To Choose Alvarez Or Faulconer As Mayor

Well, JeanMarc, I wouldn't be too arrogant and cocky about Faulconer's win. My understanding is that acting mayor Todd Gloria will pick Faulconer's replacement on the council, and is considering a democrat for the seat, which would provide a veto proof majority for Faulconer to deal with, on any policies he tries to push through. And while wer're at it, lets just call a spade a spade......a lot of San Diegans just weren't comfortable electing a latino mayor, especially from THAT other side of town, a place they probably have never set foot in. Whether Faulconer's funding came from within or without, he is still a shill for corporate San Diego, their CEO's, and Manchaster and
the U-T. bigwigs.

San Diegans Head To Polls To Choose Alvarez Or Faulconer As Mayor

Kevin Faulconer won this election playing the race and class card. Pitting one set of neighborhoods against another. This told me a lot about him as a person. Now, of course, he wants all San Diegans to come together and support him as mayor. Not so fast Kevin. You are a corporate shill, hand picked by Manchester and his co-horts of the U-T. You do not have my respect, nor will you have my support.
