KPBS Strengthens News Service

Where’s the wonder?

Where’s the excitement?

Where’s the culture? Where’s the art? Where’s the music? Where’s the creativity?

Who are you guys? What are you doing?

So, KPBS promotes its new, no classical music, schedule by saying that San Diegans who want culture on their radio should point their antennas at L.A.? Sounds like a particularly insulting joke Woody Allen might make about San Diego. – Yeah, we in San Diego don’t need no stinkin’ music, culture or arts; we need news shows, more news shows and then more news shows.

I don’t know why KPBS is going in their current direction but, not for a second, do I believe the reason given above. How does broadcasting BBC for eight hours a day further local news coverage? It hurts me to see a (should be proud) PBS station mouthing “cover your ass marketing new speak, mumbo jumbo” at their community.

Earlier posters have provided partial lists of the numerous creative and absolutely wonderful music programs available to PBS stations. (They’re produced by other PBS stations that see their responsibility to inform and entertain as an actual opportunity to enlighten and create.) These music shows have intelligence; spirit; heart and soul that can make one think and feel in new and exhilarating ways. They can inspire personal growth and well being, They open an understanding not just of other people, places and times but of oneself and life itself as well. – The new KPBS schedule has about as much music as Radio Taliban.

Where’s the excitement?

Where’s the wonder?
