I applaud this move. I think we are catching up with other cities. There are many people who don't have a chance to listen in the morning and would appreciate having access to the priceless NPR news product. I also don't think it has to be either/or with classical music. We can have both classical music and 24 hour NPR programming. It reminds me of arguments that say we shouldn't have a professional sports team because we need more libraries. Why is it either/or? San Diego is growing, and also shaking it's anchor of a reputation as a conservative city, and the demand for 24 hour NPR programming points to that.
I expect financial support to explode, and don't be surprised if classical music also grows in local appreciation too.
Way to go KPBS, I will be encouraging others to join.
