Number Of Families Living In Poverty, Hunger Rising In San Diego County

I was the caller at the end of the show, and my comment was about the astonishing amount of hoops the County wants a person to jump through in order to get into the food stamp program. I applied in October via mail, I called the "new" and improved call center to inquire about my application, I was on hold for over 25 minutes, just to be told I had to wait until I received a letter from the County in the mail. Well, I received a letter alright, but it was 4 WEEKS after I had applied. In the letter is a laundry list of items you need to show to see if you even QUALIFY for the program. The day they scheduled me for was a working day, and as the only source on income for my family was not possible for me to get the off. They provide a voicemail number to call if you need to re-schedule, which I did leave a message exactly as they requested. Here it is almost the end of November and I still haven't gotten a call back. Secondary and third attempts to call the voicemail gave me a message stating the voicemail was full! The red tape is so dis-heartening I just want to give up and continue to use WIC and the food banks as my primary source of food supplimentation.
