I am a diehard fan of the original Star Trek, and I have to say that I was skeptical about this movie going in. I couldn't imagine other actors filling those iconic roles. To my surprise, I really liked the movie. I chuckled to myself at all the tidbits thrown in for us Trekies, and I very much appreciated that Abrams reached back to the original in order to connect us to this new story. I think your review is right on. This was not a deep-thinking flick, hoping to get us to take a look at our shortcomings as a society (which is what most of the TV episodes did), however, I saw this as an introduction to the new cast, and figured the "moral of the story" type scripts would follow in the sequels. Good script, great casting, lots of action - the only thing missing for me was a William Shatner cameo.

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Movie
